Great Garden Makeovers Ideas

A garden can very quickly become an unruly and unsightly mess if you do not regularly maintain it. While part of the reason of having a garden is so that you have a place to go to get away from work and relax, when your garden is not looking its best, it can be hard to relax as you find yourself looking around at all the work that you need to do to tame it. If you are considering taking the first difficult steps into the realms of garden re-engineering, below are some useful tips to help you.

If you feel that you like your garden as it is fundamentally, you may just need to put in a bit of effort to bring it back to its previous levels of beauty. A proper garden spring clean means more than just getting the lawnmower out, for this you do need to put the effort in, but the rewards are great. You can start with the lawn, making sure it is cut and that all weeds are removed, and also trimming the edges where it meets flower beds, paths and fences. Then, move on to your flower beds and be brave in cutting back overgrown plants and replacing older plants. Turn over the soil to break it up and add a new layer of top soil to finish off the look.

Alternatively, you may be thinking that a clean up will just not cut the mustard, in which case you need to think about a total makeover. Take a step back from your garden and look at the different features there are and decide which ones you like and which you do not like. Also, make a note of what you would like from a new garden and how you want it orientated. Then, it may be best to order a skip as you are going to need a big bin to put all the rubbish in.

With only minor modifications, it is assumed that you will be able to carry out the majority of the work yourself and will unlikely need a designer. However, with more major changes a design will be very useful, as will be some extra help in the form of landscape gardeners. When going through the design process, consider what kinds of places you like to go on holiday, where you feel relaxed and what you want the garden for. Every single well designed garden will have at least one focal point to draw the eye and you should consider the same for your garden, whether it be a small waterfall or fountain, a sculpture, a bench or seating area, or something else that is in keeping with the style of the garden but also stands out from it.
